Einstein it is. I'll set it up on my machines that I have control over. Those points will not reflect over here correct? I don't know what to do anymore. Whatever you guys think is best for the team, I'll be happy to jump in Join TEAM MAUISUN.ORG |

Einstein it is. I'll set it up on my machines that I have control over. Those points will not reflect over here correct? Sorry Bro... I was on the Jack again and somtimes get a bit dipressed when reading forums as it all seems to deep and complex. I'm known to drink and as my computers are on 24/7 I tend to end up infront of them when I get home from the bars drunk. In fact, the blues bar where I go and play has internet on the bar which I tend to use when I want to avoid talking to some wanker who thinks that Stevie Ray Vaughn is too white to be a true blues artist (and so on). I'm on the tea at the moment. Join TEAM MAUISUN.ORG |

typing and teaing dont mix, :D hehehehe Just ask Legman, he does it from time to time also. Hehehe, I find when I do so, I jump into the WPD forums and stirr up crap :D Try to avoid it, but hey, whats life about if you can not have fun from making mistakes. Hmm, some of the best looking women that I have been with were major mistakes. Knew if from the beginning, but that did not slow me down. |

LOL Todd. Becareful of that Jack. He used ot be my best friend, I had to drop his ass though as I was tired of waking up on the cloor next to the toilet with puke breath. =) And anyone who says that SRV is too white is a f'ing idiot. I saw the man play live and there is no one that I know of, past or present that can come close to touching him. I would have a very hard time not slapping the sh!t out of someone in a bar if they said that to me. What an ass! I swear! If you cant say something nice, say something vague. And if you can't think of something vague, then shut the hell up! =) |

I don't think that is possible really. As most of the time I can't understand a damn thing Babmo is saying anyway. =) If you cant say something nice, say something vague. And if you can't think of something vague, then shut the hell up! =) |

Hmph. A sorrier group of drooping appendages I've never seen. Why on earth are you sitting around drinking in bars when you could be lying around making women [or whatever else you're into] happy? Sheesh! Do I have to teach you EVERYTHING?? Too much alcohol leads to performance problems, children. Why are <deleted>s wasted on men? They don't have a CLUE what to do with them or how to care for them. <stalks off muttering under her breath> FADBeens |

K-RaD on this base luvs you all Anyways, If you do join up to the other projects you should join up via the team join links (in the stickied post in our team forum) If I've set it up properly you should then have Rosetta set to 500% and the rest to about 10% or so. That basically means you'll always do Rosetta and the odd other project job. You can then set them up from your general (or project ?) preferences. NOTE, General preferences is taken from you last updated boinc project preferences ! NOTE 2 : Join the team before you send in your results otherwise they con contribute to the team (and hence the BOINC overall) stats NOTE 3 : Use the same email/username for all projects so that they combine in the Overall stats (you can change both at any time btw) Team mauisun.org |

So by running two projects am I going to use more RAM? How is this going to effect my RAC for rosetta, as I do not want that to suffer. I will only run einstein on a machine or two for now until I see what it does to my rosetta RAC. If you cant say something nice, say something vague. And if you can't think of something vague, then shut the hell up! =) |

K-RaD on this base where exactly do we find this "general pref" section that we can set the job %? Secret team meetings and the sharing of 3.2Terabytes of free software -->HERE!... Don't spy, we don't like spies! |

If you go to the Home site for any of the projects you have an account with, login with your email addy and pw, then look for the preferences area. There will be a General Preference, a Preferance area for the project. If you go to the one for the project you can put a number (the default is set to 100). The way these numbers work are it will take the total number give for ALL of your projects, figure out what percentage each project has been given, and do work based on that percentage. For instance, if you left the default and were running einstein and rosetta, they would both be set to 100. That would give you a total of 200 and 50% of your crunching power would go to each. So by doing 500 for rosetta and 50 for einstein like FC said that would give 90% to rosetta and 10% to einstein. And yeah, I would guess that your current RAC for rosetta would be decreased a bit if you were crunching both einstein and rosetta jobs at the same time. But not certain. |

So I set it up the way you said, 500 for rosetta and 50 for einstein. The rosetta job is running and using 99% of my cpu. There is a second rosetta job queued up and in "ready to run" status while the einstein job is sitting there in preempted status. I am wondering if einstein is going to run at all or will it wait until all the rosetta jobs have finished, i.e the servers crash and I can't get any new work. any ideas? If you cant say something nice, say something vague. And if you can't think of something vague, then shut the hell up! =) |

There is a second rosetta job queued up and in "ready to run" status while the einstein job is sitting there in preempted status. The Boinc Scheduler takes care of figuring what to do. It appears to be a little cranky at times. I run a similar setup to what's suggested above (99% rosetta 1% other projects), and it'll go for weeks at a time before D/L work for the other projects. The odd thing is that when it does, it D/L a whole big mess of work, crunches it all, and then promptly forgets about the other project for a couple more weeks. In the long term it does honor my preferences, but it sure doesn't look like it in the short term. :) |

There is a second rosetta job queued up and in "ready to run" status while the einstein job is sitting there in preempted status. At 500:50, you're giving almost 10% to Einstein (which is a good thing, IMHO, as the scheduler seems to do better with that than it does with 1%...) so I would expect you to do about 2 hours/day on average for Einstein. If an Einstein result takes 8 hours on your computer, then you'll do one result every four days. This should avoid EDF mode - it should _literally_ spend about 2 hr/day on Einstein, rather than doing all of it in one chunk. Your Rosetta RAC will probably drop by the 10% figure, while your Einstein RAC gradually (it takes a _long_ time to get credit there...) climbs to the same point, so your overall BOINC RAC remains fairly constant. Once you know the average time for an Einstein WU, you can drop the percentage down to the point where you only give it enough time to safely meet deadline; maybe 500:25, or 500:20. Then you'll be at the bare minimum to avoid EDF. If you really just want to do "all Rosetta" except when there's a problem, then _I_ would suggest that you simply "no new work" the Einstein project, and when it's run dry, "suspend" it. This _does_ require micromanagement - YOU must resume Einstein if Rosetta is ever down, or your CPU will be idle. To have it as a "true backup only", but automatic, you're going to have to go dgnuff's method. I know RAC is part of the competition for teams and such, but it's _so_ meaningless in reality... total credit matters, RAC just doesn't, other than as an indicator of when/if you're going to catch the next team up or not. |
