if you go to that computer's (host's) page you can see the IP address (top of the page) that it last contacted from. Give the IP address to the police. You won't be able to find out what physical (i.e. postal) address that the connection was made from but the police can get that info from the ISP who provide that IP address. You can also try and trace that IP using trace route - tracert in DOS - or try IPLocator which will probably be more useful. HTH Danny |

what does IPLocator say about that IP? It cant say anything because he said its a NAT adress, probably private adress space.. (RFC 1918)... |

Strange how BOINC can help find stolen computers! "Life is like an Ice Cream cone, just when you think you got it licked, it drips all over you!" |

When I look at the IP address of my machines that are sitting behind a NAT router, yes, the IP shows as the local address, but further down the page, there is a second field called "External Address" which appears to show the edge node address of my router. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

I tested the external IP to the locater mentioned. It did get the general area,(within 40 miles) but not the exact town when I used the IP address listed for one of my computers. Just thought I would mention it. |
