Pretty simply when all the shouting and screaming was over. Install Win98 (less of a memory hog than 2K). Install Boinc. Install VNC (*). Set BIOS so it ignores all errors. Remove mouse. Reboot. Tell Win98 to never report a missing mouse again. Hitch to network. Remove screen and keyboard. Connect via VNC. Sacrifice a small fuzzy animal. Reboot. ..... Connect via VNC and she's up and running, VNC working like a charm, Boinc merrily crunching away on the first Rosetta WU. Host 64671 on this page. Oh yeah, I'll be ramping up gently. That's an old AMD 750MHz, I've got an AMD 1400 and an AMD 2400+ waiting to come online, once I get a couple of cases for them. (*) I'll prolly switch to tightvnc when they release the next version. For now, what the have as stable doesn't seem to much more than realVNC, which (to be honest) is working just fine. |

once I get a couple of cases for them. Humm. What do you do to get the OS to run w/o a vid card? -- Edit -- NM, I just worked it out. Since they're diskless, the're probably running network boot Linux. |

Are they booting off the Lan Morphers? Yes Sir! Installing LTSP ( http://www.ltsp.org ) on the server and running the ltsadmin prog does(almost)all the necessary steps to config NFS,DHCP,TFTP etc. And with a modification in profile the clients start Rosetta when powered up. Teddies.... |

Yes it is definatly nice that most of us are sticking together. I think i have mostly decided what im going to run on each of my systems as I continue to work on it.. so soon i will be probaly bringing my other computers over. Yes FaD is still curently running but being my schedule i may not be around when FaD closes so i have to start the move earlier (yea i may still be able to post and such i just wont be able to adjust my computers) Nasher |
