Are there any plans for a GPU client? |

I was thinking about the same thing - FAH is working on one and the results are incredible. On the new ATI 1800 their test beds show speeds 5x faster than the latest pentiums. I reckon that Rosetta has to used what's provided by BOINC though... so if boinc gpu client doesn't exists, then Rosetta on GPU won't exist either... Team CFVault.com http://www.cfvault.com |

boinc just distributes the client and work, so if a gpu client is available, I think extending boinc to query the gpu type wouldn't be too hard. you would need to add in preferences how many gpu's you want to use, too. on hte other hand, i did not dive into the code so far, might be wrong as well -- Florian www.domplatz1.de |

Great, if that's the case. The TFFlops would go through the roof with GPU clients - most of the participants on top of the stats ladders for any DC project are computer enthusiasts and would probably have the latest GPUs in their boxes. At the very least it would double the WUs per box for some people. Team CFVault.com http://www.cfvault.com |

Questions such as this are BOINC specific. I'd encourage you to join the BOINC developers email distribution (BOINC_dev). http://boinc.berkeley.edu/email_lists.php As I recall hearing quite some time ago, the development required to enable BOINC to run on GPU's was assessed to be fairly significant and was tabled to allow the team to tackle the existing bugs and feature requests. You may wish to revisit this question over there. |

Just for the record, Folding@Home are developing a Gpu crunching client for their project. Visit http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-highperformance.html for more info. |
