-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello everyone, I would like to start by saying that I am very happy to help in this wonderful project which we all hope will one day help science in alleviating disease on this planet! I still find that only a small fraction of computers around the globe actually participate in the challenge. I believe we need more publicity in the media to inform people around the globe of this project so that more people can join and help in crunching numbers! I just wish a public figure in the star system could talk about it on national television and get more people interested! Oh well, just some thoughts I wished to share and wondered if other people felt the same way? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- I certainly agree! We just got two more targets from CASP and many more will be coming through this week. Many look like they will be perfect candidates for the methods we have been working on, except harder because they are somewhat longer (120 amino acids instead of 90). so we need more computer power to really test the methods adequately! I just checked and saw that Seti is doing 10x the amount of computing each day than rosetta is; I wonder if a small percentage of seti participants could switch over temporarily for the next two months--it would not change the total seti throughput much but could make a huge difference here! |

Dr Baker, what would your prefered setting in preferences be while CASP is running ? My setting is for the workunits to run for 4 hours at present. Would changing that help in anyway ? [Edit]P.S. I'm only running Rosetta on 2 machines just now and one is producing 11 models and the other 13 pretty consistently for a 4 hour setting on these Casp jobs.[/Edit] |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- With the recent errrr... issues at the Seti Cafe, I wouldn't be surprised if a few people dropped that project and looked for others. I for one dropped it and shifted its share over to Rosetta. Kathryn :o) The BOINC FAQ Service The Unofficial BOINC Wiki The Trac System More BOINC information than you can shake a stick of RAM at. |

The Rosetta volunteers group certainly agree. Please join us. Our goal is to help the project get the word out, and to help meet the longterm goal of increasing R@H to 150TFLOPS. If you can imagine, the project team is made up of scientists... publicity isn't their strong suit. They don't have a budget nor a staff to devote to publicity either. And so our approach has been to put together materials for the project to use with minimal effort. We need educational materials, an easy to install CD, tutorials, press releases, letters or various sorts, help covering the forums and addressing user questions that arise, and more ideas for projects that will be effective at bringing in more users. Post what you can volunteer in the can you help Rosetta thread. Join the volunteers group, our eyes are bigger than our spare time. There are many different things being worked on presently. Post your ideas on the videos that are being developed or in the How to bring more users to Rosetta thread. I am already giving full dual cpu time 24hours a day. Yep, that is great. Keep it up. :Thumbsup here: But it is not quite what I meant. I dont want to get too off topic here as this thread is about publicity for Rosetta. I see you have a 3 hour setting set in preferences which is producing anything from 1 to 6 models for that 3 hour run on the Casp jobs. What I was wondering was would it be helpful to have more or less models per job by adjusting the run time during Casp ? Or does it not matter either way ? |

I am already giving full dual cpu time 24hours a day. I would recommend a bit longer wu setting (~8hr) if everything is running smoothly on your computer to reduce net traffic a bit. thanks, David |

Thanks Dr.Baker. I will let the current cache run down a wee bit and then change the setting to 8 hours. |

I am already giving full dual cpu time 24hours a day. Dr. Baker, what would you say would be an optimal goal of increased data crunching for Rosetta? I know that there is probably no amount that is enough but for the CASP7 goals what would be ideal? 2X what terraflops we're pulling in now? %20 more? Dr. Baker, what would you say would be an optimal goal of increased data crunching for Rosetta? Not trying to speak for Dr. Baker but they have said they'd like to crunch a million models for each CASP7 WU to feel they've explored it thouroughly. And the longer proteins need more models run because they have more landscape to cover. In the longer term, the goal is to bring the project to 150 TeraFLOPS. Roughly 5 times it's current size. And the more models we crunch the better the predictions that result, so growth beyond that would still be helpful. Especially as they bring on some of the "docking" and "design" work mentioned in the project logo. I am already giving full dual cpu time 24hours a day. I'm going to keep it at 4 hours as I had a couple of failures after viewing the graphics on my first 5.16 jobs. If I dont view the graphics they finish fine. 5.13 was the most stable for me since 4.82. |

Back on topic, Rosetta needs more publicity... Call your local paper and ask them to run the article from the Associated Press about Rosetta.
