I have compared 2 settings as: 1.) 50% of the CPUs + 100% of CPU time -> CPU Utilization = 5%, Peak temp = 89C 2.) 75% of the CPUs + 100% of CPU time -> CPU Utilization = 33%, Peak temp = 97C It looks that in case 1.) the CPU Utilization is too low, even temperature is good. In case 2.) CPU utilization is more normal, but below expected, and temperature is over the safe limit of 90C. I hope I could attach the screenshots here as well, but I could not attach any images here into this message. I am wondering if low CPU Utilization (especiially case 1) is caused by the Windows11 or by the BOINC client/manager somehow. |

I have compared 2 settings as: What system (CPU / memory / disk allocation etc)? Which version of Boinc? What projects do you have running beside Rosetta? Do you run the Python tasks or just standard Rosetta? |

In case 2.) CPU utilization is more normal, but below expected, and temperature is over the safe limit of 90C.You need to get your cooling system fixed. I'd suggest making sure the vents on the laptop are clean, and that the heatsinks in it are clean as well and make sure it is on a solid base (not cloth, fabric etc). Check the BIOS for fan speed settings- set them to maximum cooling performance. While running at 100% load a laptop with less than great cooling can reach 100°c, that should not occur if the system is only running at 75% load or less (If it's an ultra portable then the cooling will not be up to 100% extended CPU loads- an active Laptop cooler would be the only option to help with cooling that sort of unit). No desktop system with a good cooling system should ever get over 70°c other than for very short peaks. To add to that you are missing the deadlines on most of your work- set your cache to 0.1 days + 0.01 additional days, and your Target CPU time to 8 hours (the default). If you're not going to process the work, then there's really not much point downloading it in the first place IMHO. Grant Darwin NT |
