Dear all, good morning. I don't know if this is the right place to post this question / problem, but the options are not that wide. Here it goes. I have experienced this same problem more than once: the disk space is enough, but the project does not download new units saying there is not enough disk space. This causes other projects to use the available, vacant space. And there we do have a problem!
To overcome this, I have reduced my participation to only 2 projects (Roseta and World Community Grid), but in the past I had helped like 4 different projects. Check the image below. Is this related to another issue of finished units' results not uploaded?

You need to increase the disk space available to BOINC in the BOINC Manager. You have only 1.25 GB available now, not enough to download much.

Go to "Options" -> "Computing preferences" and then "Disk and memory".
Just set "Leave at least 5 GB free" (or whatever value you want), and then un-check the other two disk settings.
It uses the most restrictive of the three.

The disk space is not enough for Rosetta, as Jim1348 said.
Rosetta need much more space, raise the limit to 5 GB or 10. For your quad core CPU that should be fine!

I have like 20 Rosetta WUs in BOINC and Rosetta uses more than 14GB, so yeah your 1.25 it not enough.

Thanks, but I do not understand. Units are supposed to be small. In 1.5 GB a lot should fit... Moreover, BOIC manager suggest that space (5 GB as default... isn't that enough)? Thanks!

Most projects have very small units.

Rosetta doesn't, because the work it has to do requires much more space. Not a lot they can do, such is the world of real world research. So yeah, it needs more space.

A good project with smaller units is WorldCommunityGrid, if you don't have enough space for Rosetta

I upgraded the disk space from 1 to 3 GB now and Rosette is still asking for more! 50 MB today what will it asks tomorrow?

Of the 3 GB reserved for BOINC only 440 MB is used for other projects at the moment and over 2,5 GB(!) for the still asking more-space-Rosetta.
So I'm getting sick and tired of this 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' begging every time for more and then begging for more again!

Please ask once for what you need and I will give you space if I can afford it. Now I am in big doubt to remove this not-working-but-space-and-asking-and-asking-and-asking-project from my BOINC-list.

Oh! Did I mention asking for space over and over again here? Cheers!

Okay, I can understand your drive might be nearly full or something, but the work units it downloads are actually quite small, they do however require quite a lot of space once they are downloaded & being computed. If you just set the amount that can be used high enough, you will not get it nagging at you to increase the amount allocated that BOINC can use. For example, mine is currently running 5 Rosetta 4.15 tasks & 3 Rosetta Mini 3.78 tasks and is using 7.17GB while they are processing at the minute. Once they are finished, uploaded & reported the amount of space taken reduces down towards 1GB or so for Rosetta on my system. If you just set it to be allowed to use 10GB or something, you are probably super unlikely to be asked to use any more.

As I said 3 posts before your, Rosetta needs more disk space than most projects, the amount depends on how many WUs do you have in total, completed and delivered WUs of course free space. With a 15GB as limit you should be fine.

If you are so limited on your disk then yup. If you have enough space then just raise that limit properly! Slap in a 15 or a 20!

It doesn't know how much more it will need, till a Task comes along that needs more.
Or you can allocate 1GB disk space for each task you are running, and the odds of it ever asking again are next to 0.
Since you have 8 cores, give it 8GB. However as only you have 8GB of RAM, and some tasks require 1.3GB of RAM, you will run in to memory issues in the future.

               Suspend when computer is in use (not selected)

     Suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage is above --- %
                          Compute only between ---

   Other	
                                Store at least 1 days of work
                     Store up to an additional 0.02 days of work
                    Switch between tasks every 60 minutes
     Request tasks to checkpoint at most every 60 seconds

   Disk
                              Use no more than 10 GB
                                Leave at least 2 GB free
                              Use no more than 60 % of total

   Memory
          When computer is in use, use at most 95 %
      When computer is not in use, use at most 95 %
 Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended (not selected)
                   Page/swap file: use at most 75 %

These settings should let your system run, with no further requests for HDD space, and no problems in the future due to insufficient RAM.

Can anyone provide the detail on how to move or control the BOINC data directory on Linux? There are two in this Q&A thread looking for help.

I have not tried it but it *should* be as simple as :-

rsync -av /var/lib/boinc-client /NEW DIRECTORY

to copy the data to the new drive and then :-

sudo nano /etc/default/boinc-client

to change the BOINC_DIR line to point to the new data directory.
