Were the first 5 of mine the same as the other computer who was fashionably late? From my extremely limited understanding of it, no. Even though the data for each Task of a given Work Unit is the same, random number(s) are used to seed the calculations, so any result produced would be different- even for the same Task if it were run twice on the same system. But the fact is they have two Valid results, so they could make use of both of them. Both sets of data would still be of use IMHO. Grant Darwin NT |

But the fact is they have two Valid results, so they could make use of both of them. Both sets of data would still be of use IMHO. So in a way it's sort of like the same unit was run for 32 hours (My 24hr block and the other computers 8hrs). Basically I shouldn't worry about late returned units from other machines that are also underway on mine. |

On the Leader board...I’ve only got a measly 88 threads running between 8 machines :-) I moved my 32 thread box (Amd 3950x) [running 28] to new X570 MB on an "older" Cube case. https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/show_host_detail.php?hostid=4308859 I am running maybe 18 threads on Rosetta plus some odds'n ends of 1 thread per project, the highly variable MindModeling (upto 4 threads) and maybe 4-6 threads on WCG. I did an estimate and came to the conclusion there was no hope even if I ran just R@H of getting my RAC up there very high. Especially since I don't run Turbo to save electricity. So I do what I can do. I have maybe 2-6 threads of R@H running on a couple of other gpu (5 and 6 gpus right now) [8c/16t) systems. Tom M Help, my tagline is missing..... Help, my tagline is......... Check the Work Unit- both the Tasks have been completed, Validated & granted Credit. I think each decoy within each task is seeded differently, so they'll all be different. Someone will be along in a minute to say I'm wrong (again) but that's my understanding up to now |

Greetings, I don't know that Rosetta would be vulnerable to this attack or not. I found this on a website and thought I would post it here for others to read. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr XO USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 "Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide." - T'Plana-hath |

Greetings, I would not trust that news source as far as I could throw it. |

Greetings, I appreciate that you're concerned, - all due respect - but that is not a trustworthy news source to transmit such information. It has a clear right wing, US Republican lean. It's literally called "liberty news". TLDR: Not trying to call you out, but that's not a good source to use, to share the underlying headline with us. |

Greetings, Not going to jump in regarding that website, but if you go to the actual source (FBI Press release) then you can form your own opinion. Link: https://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/peoples-republic-of-china-prc-targeting-of-covid-19-research-organizations |

Greetings, Hi CIA, Like you handle. :) Thanks for the link. I guess there was truth to the article I linked to after all. ;) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr XO USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 "Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide." - T'Plana-hath |

Greetings, Ok. IMHO I am getting way too many errors in tasks both server cancelled (not so much) and computation errors (way too many). Would someone please look at my task returns that are errors and see if perhaps there is a problem with my PC. I built this thing in 2018 and only seldom had any errors on SETI, at least no where near what I get here on Rosetta. I used to have a link to the BOINC error messages, but for some reason the page is no longer accessible to me. Much appreciated! :) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr XO USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 "Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide." - T'Plana-hath |

Greetings, I see a fair few “process got signal 11” with an exit code 139 on your Mint machine. Most of the google searches I found refer to files not being opened or memory/buffer overflow issue. For the error code 139 I saw one of these: If you are seeing this message, the internally-generated XML Schema for rosetta_scripts could not be properly generated You have a couple of exit code 1 as well. They seem to be buggy work units were it complains about a missing constraints file. I have a few of them as well, so I’d ignore them. If you have it overclocked look at reducing the overclock. I would run a memtest on it as well to see if there is any issue with it. BOINC blog |

Hi Mark, If you have it overclocked look at reducing the overclock. I would run a memtest on it as well to see if there is any issue with it. I don't have my CPU overclocked, it is running at the stock 4 GHz. I did a Memtest86 on it some time ago and everything was good to go. I guess I'll just live with the errors then. Aha! The error code page is back, here it is. Thanks Mark and have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr XO USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 "Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide." - T'Plana-hath |

Just for fun, I pulled up my UPS' manager software yesterday and found that with Rosetta running but the computer otherwise idle (with my settings; not 100% of CPU and afaict no GPU) it pulls 121 watts. When Rosetta is suspended, the computer idles at 103 watts. So it's costing about 17 watts to run the tasks (admittedly slowly; each set seems to take around 20 hours of system-on time). My current electric rate (winter, off-peak, in California) is about 11c/kwh. So that set of tasks (I presume 2; that's what Task Manager shows running) costs me about 4 cents, total over the life of the tasks. Quite reasonable, I think. And really, the cost is approximately zero at the moment because the solar panels produce more than I use (that'll probably change next week as the 100F weather arrives for the summer, the a/c goes on overdrive, and summer rates kick in at about 1.5-2x current rates depending on time of day). |

Bought a bunch of EDUP 2.5G network cards off eBay. It turns out they’re actually 1G cards in disguise. They say they are connected at 2500 Mbit/sec. A network speed test showed them only doing 930 Mbit. I’ve requested my money back. BOINC blog |

I don't trust the people that sell on eBay. I've seen too many instances like yours. Greetings, Ok, something is wrong! ;) I have 0, that's zero errors on my task list. I have not seen where I have had zero before. :) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr XO USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 "Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide." - T'Plana-hath |

Greetings, I have made no changes to my host. I've been keeping up on the updates to Linux Mint. I have made no changes to the BOINC manager or to the preferences here on the website. Everything is as it was this morning, yesterday, last week, etc. I just checked my tasks list in BOINC manager. I saw that 6 tasks were running. It should be 9; I have "Use at most x % of the CPUs" set to 75%. 75% of 12 is 9. I am now down to 4 tasks running and will soon be at 3. If things keep going as they are, I will not be running any tasks within the next 3 hours. I have not seen anything like this in the past 21 years of using BOINC. The tasks have a deadline of June 1, 2020. I fill my cache and set NNT. When I get to 18 or less I set ANT and when the cache is full I set NNT. I just looked and I'm now down to 3 tasks running. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr XO USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 "Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide." - T'Plana-hath |

I just looked and I'm now down to 3 tasks running. If you have Seti set as an active project, and since it doesn't have any new work, all that stopping & starting of allowing work here is probably confusing the Manager when it comes to working out debt owed between Seti & Rosetta. Instead of manually disallowing & allowing work, just let it be and see if it sorts itself out. The more people micro-manage, the messier things become, and the longer it takes to sort things out. That has always been the case. Grant Darwin NT |
