>>> sign up for WCG

I, and several others, left wcg about a year ago because of a series of incidents in their forums, it is absent from my machines now. I figured, however, I should crunch them again, at least while the current situation exists. So I tried... I cannot go in. I wanted to ask about this on the forum, it tells me I need to be logged in to post messages, at the top of the same screen is the "log out" poke point, I AM logged in, AND, I'm not!!!

I think since then they switched from logging in with a username to logging in with a email address. Maybe it's something to do with that. Have you tried clearing your browser cookies?

It's a strange thing, but I've been crunching for WCG as a back-up project for quite a few years (which gets an inordinate amount of crunching time too) and I've never been in their forums.
Lots of things about it I've never understood, like their points system, which aren't points in the same sense as any other project and can't be correlated with anything else.
But now you've intrigued me.
Not so much that I'm going to go there though.
Good project though.

I looked at the available projects and I can't see anything new yet. Someone give me a nudge if one pops up

Before I get too distracted <again> I'm pleased to say I've managed to fill my buffers with tasks on both the machines I have access to, and there's still a pile left to grab for everyone else.

Also, shockingly, more android tasks have become available and I've grabbed them too this time

I think/hope this may be the big one. Go get'em

Their points system is a relic - dividing it by 7, should roughly equal the BOINC points. /700 = gigaflops, 700,000=teraflops

They're launching their own Pandemic response project soon - it'll be interesting to see how it progresses.

Well, why don't they just divide them by 7 then?
I can't be doing with that kind of nonsense - leave them to it

I'll await the announcement. They already tell me loads of stuff I don't want to know. I'll hear

Just picking up one task here, except having to compete with Seti@home and PrimeGrid, for also a bit of factorization as well.

Any stuck elbows only for such, and it could also be the science that we could be carrying out, for only finding a couple of solutions.

It actually simple and can easily correlated. A very simple formula: 7 WCG points = 1 BOINC point ( 1 cobblestone) or vice versa.
It just legacy from very old times when WCG was stand alone project using own software platform including own point calculation rules and formulas .
Which migrated to BOINC platform later but point basis remains the same for compatibility issues with data and stats generated in pre-BOINC era .

Just as a point if interest for you, WCG points do correlate to credits, for some reason known only to themselves they allocate 7 points per Boinc credit internally.

It's even easier than that. Tell everyone to get over themselves, divide everyone's points on WCG by 7, then use Boinc's scoring system forever-more.
People will get upset - no-one in their right mind even cares. Therefore if they do still care... QED

There are enough new volunteers lately that the server is often out of tasks to send.

Did you guys drop support for Atom processors, I have a batch of quad core atoms that suddenly stopped receiving any WU's even though my other systems still receive work...

My atom box has stopped receiving as well despite 15000 jobs available. Unfortunately I had some WUs crashing as I had been running two WUs simultaneously until the memory usage recently ballooned to be too much for my machine. But I was still able to complete WUs running singly at last attempt so I hope the developers are aware it's just a memory requirement issue at least in my case (the 'out of memory' error is visible in the log).

Those are only available for Rosetta for Portable Devices applications.
There is no work available at present for Rosetta or Rosetta Mini (other than the extremely occasional resend).

Are you referring to the "resource share" that tells BOINC how much work to get for each project?

Hello.
How or where can one change the priority?
Thank you

BOINC isn't designed in a way to let you adjust what is normally known as priority, You may not agree that it should be called priority, though.

However, you can adjust the resource shares of various BOINC projects to try to control what percentage of your computer's tasks come from various BOINC projects, assuming that you are connected to more than one such project.

The resource share of 0 has a special meaning - download a task from this project only if all other projects have failed to provide one.

If you are using the simple view of BOINC Manager, start by clicking View, then Advanced View. If you decide to switch it back later, click on View, then Simple View.

In Advanced View, click on Projects, then the project you want to adjust the share for. At least for Rosetta@Home, click on Your account, then Rosetta@Home Preferences.

Up to four sets of preferences should appear. If you have only one computer, adjust each of them to the same values so you don't have to think about which set applies to which computer.

Choose the set you want to adjust, and click on Edit preferences. Click on the number for Resource share, and change that number. Click on Update preferences.

After adjusting the shares for this project, click on the X that shuts down this browser window. Click on the project again then Update, The project may or may not move up or down in the list of projects.

The share numbers are shown as percentages, as well as plain numbers. The plain numbers do not have to add up to 100; the calculation of the percentages will automatically adjust the percentages so that the percentages add up to 100%.

World Community Grid is planning to add a subproject related to COVID-19 soon, but does not have it ready. If you participate there also, make sure that you have chosen to add any new subprojects when they become available.

The tasks currently available are all set to run on portable devices only, such as those running Android. Keep waiting - the requests for tasks are currently much more frequent than new tasks are available.

I just noticed that, yeah, the server status page reports work only for Android. I suppose computers requested all the available work!
