I just finished the download. How can I tell if the program is functioning? The screensaver is always blank. |

I just finished the download. How can I tell if the program is functioning? The screensaver is always blank. Assuming you are using a windows machine, you should find a BOINC icon in your system tray. You can access the BOINC manager window from there. Once the window is open you can click on the "Work" tab, and you should see the CPU time incrementing upwards. The percent complete will also move but that may take a long time. Do not be alarmed if you notice the time to completion rising. This is normal behavior, and it will fall again when the percent complete changes. If you are using a Mac the BOINC Icon will be in the system Dock, and the same steps apply Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

Thanks, I do see the CPU time incrementing. But why is the screen saver still blank? G'day LC1500, I notice that you have Win XP so here's what I'd do: Right click your Desktop (to bring up) -> Properties -> Screen Saver (tab) -> Screen saver drop down list and select BOINC and change the settings to your liking, that should do it. |

Thanks for the reply . The screen saver still stays blank although the block marked "go to blank" is unchecked. Am I missing something? |

I hate to make unnecessary new threads so will ask question here. I just noticed work units I am downloading are about 6.5 megs....what's going on? On this one machine that is on dialup it's killing me with time/bandwidth. Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

I hate to make unnecessary new threads so will ask question here. There's a setting you can twiddle on the Rosetta section of the settings to help fix this: Click Particiants above, then select "View or edit Rosetta@home preferences". In there, Hit the edit link, and jack the target run time up to 8 hours (or even 16). This comes with a price, in that if a WU errors out, you lose more, but it may do a lot to help the D/L and U/L problem. There's a few threads about this over in the Number Crunch section of the Forums. |

Switching to 24 hour max cpu time isn't going to help with the current problem. >I< have 24 hour max cpu time set, and since last night at 11pm, have downloaded 12 different failing HBLR WUs that have run for between 54 seconds and 9,900 seconds before failing. As each one fails, it's returned, and another soon to fail HBLR is downloaded. That's one per hour. If my setting was at 1 hour max cpu time, only 2 of those failed WUs would have uploaded data. Anyway.. if downloading 6.5 megs/hour is causing a problem, then either shut off Boinc for the weekend (or until the HBLRs have been purged from the system) - or stop Rosetta and run another project until they've purged the HBLRs from the system. |

G'day LC1500, No I don't think so. What sort of graphics card have you got? |

I've upped all of those settings...I'm just wondering why the units sometimes are containing 6.5 megs of d/l Perhaps people misunderstood my question. In the past I observed the downloads to be at maximum about 3.5 megs plus 1.3 or so. Now some of them are 6.5 plus 3.5. This is what I am asking. I am certainly NOT asking how to increase my crunch time per work unit. Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

Roger that! Thanks. Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |
