I would just like to know if there is any scientific benefit to crunch a WU for 24hrs? I ask because of this result where a WU was resent but the original WU was returned after 3hrs of processing (over a 10 day period) and was tagged as "canonical" . Does this mean my 24hr processing of this WU is wasted and binned or is it used because of the longer processing? |

I would just like to know if there is any scientific benefit to crunch a WU for 24hrs? There's not so much scientific benefit, the benefit is that you decrease the load on the download servers (which is good for the project) and if your internet connection is somehow limited or just slow, it might be good for you. As to the canonical result... I think (and hope) that that is just the only thing BOINC can do/show while actually both your results were entered in the database, since they validated and were probably completely different anyway (starting structures are generated locally). . |
