Message 77459 - Posted: 14 Sep 2014, 23:45:11 UTC

Greetings,

I am fairly new to rosetta (not new to BIONIC) and have noted the error I am getting in several places in this thread, but no answers. Here is the error (not mine, copied from another user but its the same error I am getting):

Task binding_helix_0472_disulf1_1_disulf2_2_disulf3_4_disulf4_2_disulf5_1_0004_abinitio_SAVE_ALL_OUT_73462_2878_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
3/29/2013 8:25:05 AM | rosetta@home | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

I have reset the project twice as the software suggests and this has not fixed the problem. I have also changed the WU swap time from 60 minutes to 24 hours, no effect, still getting the same error. I am getting credit for the CPU time, but that is not the reason I run BIONIC, I am trying to help out. If my WU's are not producing then I need to find out how to start providing valid results. Any suggestions (nice ones please) would be appreciated.

Copied and pasted from an earlier answer:

On Rosetta this is usually solved by increasing the "use at most xxx% of CPU time" setting to 100. You may then want to reduce the "on multiprocessors, use at most xxx% of the processors" to something less than currently set. Most people find this handles the temperature regulation concerns (that the cpu throttling was designed to address) perfectly.

Another possible cause are virus scanners; most folks exclude BOINC from those scans or set it to run only when BOINC isn't active.

An explanation and more possible causes can be found here: BOINC FAQ Service

Please know that this only becomes a fatal error when it occurs 100 times to a particular task; at that point BOINC assumes the task will never be able to finish and gives up on it, ending it as a client error. If you see this message only occasionally it is safe to ignore it.

Does anyone know what this might be a symptom of. Lots of failures to download (but not 100% - nearer 85% fail, 15% success) and failures to upload (but not 100% either - nearer 23% fail, 77% success)

Just to show a download, which went through successfully, but with an error partway through. Not a permanent problem, but intermittent. Weird.

Thanks, I was unable to find that answer in the 806 previous posts. :)

I have found tht if I set the processor usage to 100% that accessing my system is nearly impossible, takes forever to get the loging screen to come up because naturally 100% of the processor is being used. Currently I have 50% of my available processors (3 of 6) running Bionic, plus my GPU when the system is not in use. Seems most of my WU's are being crunched by the GPU, which honestly dones not bother me at all.

I have set my anti-virus to bypass the Bionic folder during scans, with luck that is the issue. I also added an exception in the Win7 firewall for it, time will tell if this is the fix I am looking for.

Can I ask, do you use Norton 360 too? I've always suspected it's something to do with that, but can't quite put my finger on it.

I haven't used Norton for over 15 years because it was a regular cause of app crashes and system hangs. I use AVG & Comodo and set each projects exe files (some projects run multiple versions of analysis programs) as allowed applications so they have un-restricted access.

I got this message in the Boinc logs on Linux today:
wo 17 sep 2014 12:19:45 CEST | rosetta@home | Rosetta Mini for Android is not available for your type of computer.

Let it be clear that I'm not running Android on my desktop. I'm running 64 bit Debian.

Ditto. Odd message on my laptop.

That's fine. I think we can exclude the AVFirewall being the cause then - that's all I was getting at, as I thought it might be some kind of false positive.

On the flipside, I was getting this on both desktop and laptop to a greater or lesser degree. Now I'm on my travels again and the moment I started my laptop, the 5 stalled uploads cleared and new files came down without error.

For what it's worth, the desktop is wired into cable broadband, while the laptop cleared itself once connected to analogue broadband (BT in England but not BT Infinity).

Does this provide me any clues? I don't know. I'm not in a position to reboot the cable router until the weekend when I return, though it's worth noting that only Rosetta is affected. WCG & Simap go through without any errors.

Definitely weird...

Rosie had an issue as my files didn't report home. Server delay from 20 hours.
Seems to work again after manual intervention.

I've rebooted the router then the PC and there is no change in behaviour of this project. I also run Einstein, Seti & Virtual LHC projects all of those exchange WU's without any problems.

I've done the same in the past and it's made no difference, but lo and behold, 6 hours ago everything cleared up for me. No reason it went wrong 5 days before. No reason it sorted itself out.

Still as confused as ever. No advice I can give to help anyone else in the same situation...

Put the PC on this morning and waiting WU's uploaded and 2 new WU's downloaded and currently running and have since downloaded a third WU. Guess someone somewhere flicked a switch or something.
