I connected up my laptop to upload and download new WUs and found the (wired) connection was very temperamental. Uploads took the best part of an hour and nothing came down. Checking connections I found a plug not fully home, after which everything went back to normal. However, on checking my tasks page, I discover 3 lots of 7 and one lot of 6 WUs (=27) were allocated to this machine, none of which are received. I have 12 WUs on my machine (2 completed already) with 39 showing online. When I've completed the 12 I'm concerned that none more will come down because of the invisible 27 (18-20 is my usual buffer). Can I somehow abort these 27, or somehow ask for them to be re-downloaded without waiting for them to expire so I can get more? I'm aware I could increase my No of days buffer to get more but I was looking for something a bit neater. |

Panic over. 15 WUs came down by the time I was down to my last 5. I should squeeze through the next 10 days with what I've got. Still a worthwhile question for those less fortunate, I guess. |

If you notice, the timestamps grouped the tasks in to the "lots" as you called them. And you basically were assigned the same number of tasks each time a scheduler request was received. The BOINC Manager on your machine looks at the work on your machine and decides how much work to request from the server. So, those tasks that were assigned but never received will not affect your workflow at all. What happens is the server gets all done writing the scheduler reply with everything you need to make these 6 new tasks be able to run, and it updates the databases to reflect they've been sent to you, ...and then your connection drops. You probably have a message in your list that says something to the effect of no end tag found in scheduler reply. So you got part of the reply, but not all of it, and so it is just discarded. Unfortunately those tasks will just have to reach their deadline and then be reassigned. There isn't anything else you can do you get a hold of them. ...part of why the system retries things, reassigned work, etc. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Ok, that's all fine. I was concerned that the Manager was asking to be built up to, say, 20 WUs but the server would see that I had more than that already (27) and reject the request. If it's all handled at my end then all should be well. Thanks for the clarification. |
