Hi there. I noticed on my BOINC program on my android that the RAM requirements changed. It now says Rosetta@home requires 1907 MB of RAM and I have 985 MB available for the project. Is this really true? If so, I will not be able to help with Rosetta@home on my android because I only have 1.9 GB of RAM in total. It never said this in the past. Thanks. |

I have also hit this issue! I have ~1800MB available according to message so am tantalisingly close. This is on a Google Pixel 2 with 4GB RAM total. |

I have a Google Nexus 6 that had the same issue. I found that by default, BOINC for Android is only permitted to use 50% of the device's memory. By setting it to 100%, I was able to get my devices to accept jobs. The setting can be changed in the BOINC preferences menu on the Android device itself. |

Thanks! I increased the Boinc RAM setting and I no longer have this error message. Unfortunately all of the tasks have already gone! |

I may be being a bit dumb, but Rosetta for Portable Devices lists Android running on ARM and Linux running on 64-bit ARM and nothing else Are either of these what can run/runs on a Samsung Galaxy S8? I have literally no idea what processors are used in any phone |

Practically all modern smartphones (Android or otherwise) use an ARM-based processor, including the Galaxy S8. You can find what hardware your smartphone uses by searching for the model on Wikipedia. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S8, the CPU will be either a Samsung Exynos 8895 or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, depending on which market you bought it in. |

I couldn't be less knowledgeable about phones and wouldn't even have recognised those processors as being ARM or not. I was trying to work out why Android tasks seemed to be available yet none got downloaded for me. I started speculating, out of pure ignorance, whether the new Rosetta versions didn't even run on my phone Now I know they do I'm more surprised I didn't get any, but no big deal. I've got WCG tasks to run on that |

The new Android App 4.12 does not even start on BOINC-App downlaoded from PlayStore Boinc (Version 7.4.53), on my Android 10 Telephone SM-G973F. What to do? |

It has 2 GB of RAM and with the OS running only about 1.7 GB are available . It looks like you need a 4GB device to run the ARM64 app. There aren't many. |

I have the same problem with a 2GB RAM 32-bit phone and both BOINC 7.4.53 and 7.16.3. In Preferences, I set RAM limit to 100%. Rosetta for Portable Devices needs 1907.35MB but only 1738.68MB is available for use. Would it be possible to fine tune this requirement on Android? This is a legacy phone but it can still pump out ~5000 credit/day on Universe@home or ~2400 on Asteroids@home. On desktop Rosetta, I can see that most tasks take less than 1GB RSS, 1.3GB top. I've also verified with zram on a constrained system that its heap compresses very well and its active set can be half as much. I'd also recommend having a user setting to limit the number of running instances of a given application, similar to how World Community Grid does with its RAM hugging application (Africa Rainfall taking about 800MB RAM) - they have per application limits, defaulting to "unlimited" except for this one. All are user editable. |
