Also for everyone make a clear distinction between Cores and Threads, 64 Cores? I doubt it, probably 32 Cores which gives you 64 Threads or 32C/64T CPU. To see them in Windows: 1) Right click on 'Task manager' 2) Go to 'Performance' Tab 3) CPU should be selected by default on the left panel, on the right one right-click and choose 'Change Graph To' pull-down menu and choose 'Logical Processors' Now R@H is inefficient in many ways, so if you use 100% of the Threads, Windows will be unresponsive, with WCG it's the opposite, the RAM usage is really Low: 4x80 MB, 3x250 MB, only 1 is 480 MB=1560 MB= 1.5 GB of RAM on my AMD FX-8370 8C/8T, but in my PC I never felt unresponsive, only on my 2 Android phones, I think maybe it's the Core 0 on Windows problem, due to UMA/NUMA mishandling by Windows. Your RAM have to be the same CL=CAS latency and voltage and frequency that the previous 1 or you'll get sudden freezes, hangs, restarts here to YouTube channels where you can have abundant info about it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrwObTfqv8u1KO7Fgk-FXHQ/videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChIs72whgZI9w6d6FhwGGHA http://gamersnexus.net/ To check your PC complementary diagnostiv/monitor tools: https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor-pro.html https://www.aida64.com/compare-aida64-features I recommend the Engineer Edition That beast of a CPU is a beauty, enjoy it, just make sure it's well cooled and also the VRM heat-sinks are not too hot and that have enough phases, overcloking should be very possible at least to its boost frequency, best of lucks |

I found my old Kill a WATT gizmo. I brought down my system and plugged it in to the Kill a WATT. At idle my system seems to pull 120 watts. When Rosetta finally gets cranked up, my system is pulling about 320 watts. I'm a bit surprised it is pulling that much. So per month I'm probably in the (0.32*24*30 = ) 230 KWhs of energy usage for my monster system/ 2,802 KWh per year. My RAC is starting to flatten out. I briefly peaked out over 20K RAC. I'm currently number 34 on the top producing hosts at 19,588 RAC. I see a few other AMD 1950x systems up in the 21+K RAC range. When I went to reset my system, I noticed my processor decided to throttle back to 2100 MHz or so. After my reboot, now all my cores are running at 3,593 MHz. Guess I should keep an eye on it. That may be limiting my production. We will see. Currently my typical run time for 32 parallel simulations is around 8 hours per simulation. That means on average I have a simulation finishing about every 15 minutes. Not bad productivity! I'm a little embarrassed how addictive watching my score grow. I was pondering picking up a second system based on a Ryzen 7 just to up my production. Am I a sick person or what.... |

Well I crossed over the 1 Million credit threshold. I gotta say the credit system is a bit baffling. My "total" graph from the Boinc Manager looks pretty much like a straight line. But my average is just crazy dips and spikes. I got as high as 30th on the list of top hosts. I'm falling like a rock with the new crop of Intel Processor that came out. Oh well... Still a great system. Will probably throttle back my background utilization to probably 90% to make surfing the web a bit smoother. I saw Microcenter had the AMD Threadripper 1950x on sale again for around $500. An absolute steal compared to the Intel processor. I may have to throttle the thing way back this summer. I hate to air condition my house during most of the day. I think the temp in my office will be a bit too warm for this thing to run flat out. |

I may have to throttle the thing way back this summer. I hate to air condition my house during most of the day. I think the temp in my office will be a bit too warm for this thing to run flat out. We're heading to 8 billion humans on earth next year and after eliminating deserts and mountains, that's about 2 arable acres per person and 1 acre should be forest to absorb carbon and aid the rain cycle. (seaweed farming, anyone?) Imagine if all of those humans were to run air conditioning to cool their crypto currency rigs. Humans are already doing a superb job of driving things extinct as it is. My machines only do science and I don't use a/c . They provide almost all heat for the house in winter and only a couple down clocked laptops run in the summer. plus a non-BOINC phone. I'm really glad to see someone else thinking about the choice of using a/c on their BOINC rigs. |

Thanks for humoring me. A piece of advise, instead of overclocking, try to lower the CPU voltage over all cores by -0.05V in the bios, and slowly adjust until errors occur, then dial a few steps back. It'll lower power consumption considerably, even if it was lowered by only 0.05V. For performance, even the highest end Ryzen gets easily beat by a mid-range GPU like a GTX 1660 or 1650 Super. Not only in performance, but also in power consumption. The 1660Ti does it at a mere 75Watts (after tuning). |
